SciVee support for CyberBridge groups

Reply CYBERBRIDGE » Discussions » SciVee support for CyberBridge groups feed

Hello all,

I wanted to first of all thank you for all your valuable feedback today. We have been able to fix or accommodate the following requests you made:

1) You can now delete discussions.

2) Blogs can be created without publishing them, but you must click "submit" after you un-check "publish this blog".

3) Group administrators can now create sub groups.

Below is a quick reference to the chart organization for your groups. Please let me know if anything looks wrong. We will connect them properly now.

NOTE: We organized them so that the school group manager is an administrator in each of the subject groups. Then the subject group manager can create student groups and assign student group leaders as student group administrators.

Requests you made that should be available by next week:

1) Adding the profile status to include: K-12 student, post-grad, and educator

2) Attaching to discussions and blogs

Requests you made that we are researching on how to best accommodate:

1) providing an email option to notify groups of discussion updates

2) adding .mac im options to the profiles

Again thank you all for your feedback. We really appreciate it!

Let me know if you run into any problems.

we want to be able to inbed photos or video clips into our discussions--is this possible and how?

How can we post powerpoints and word documents for download on Cyberbridge community?

Hello,

Requests you made that should be available by next week include:

1) Adding the profile status to include: K-12 student, post-grad, and educator

2) Attaching files to discussions and blogs. << this includes: jpg jpeg gif png txt html doc xls pdf ppt pps odt ods odp zip sitx

I have added the new request to embed videos into discussion blogs as well. There is a security issue with allowing certain types of embed codes and perhaps Willy our programmer can explain more here. I will ask him to post his response here on the progress as we develop that. We all certainly agree that the option to embed videos should be provided. Thank you for bringing this to our attention, either way, I will post here to let you know as soon as that option is available.

Always download from people you trust and scan the downloaded file with your antivirus.

Is there a way to post an album of related photos? We just had a field trip to SIO and that would be great to be able to do that maybe in a group or community blog rather than a personal blog.

Hi there,

There are no photo album applications on SciVee. You may want to make it into a timed slide show and export it as a video. To post on your page, that would be wonderful. Here is an example of one that Lynn made:

So great with the music!

You might want to contact her and see how she did it.

Apryl,

Shelley and I started a discussion to post documents that the teachers need. We can only post one at a time though. We would like to upload multiple documents to one posting.

What would be really great is to have a section for documents right on the cyberbridge main page so I don't have to start a new discussion to load pages.

Thanks!

Heather

HI Heather,

Since adding documents in a discussion or reply page provides all the necessary meta data required for searching (message area can be used for document description), we would like to have each uploaded document added via the discussions and reply pages. Sorry if this is time consuming, but please understand that in the long run searching for these documents will be much easier with the necessary information attached to them.

If you would still like to upload multiple documents, the best way to do that is to zip them up prior to upload. Again, adding the description in the message area will add more value to the data for future reference to other educators. We are still working on adding the discussions and documents to the search and sort applications, but you can expect that to be an option in the future.

In the future, we will also provide a space on the main page where documents will be linked to your discussion threads-- this is a great idea. Thank you for mentioning it.

Apryl

EDIT: blogs allow multiple doc uploads see: http://www.scivee.tv/node/6315
